Besides being visually and aurally stunning, the gameplay is highly original, featuring an inovative battle style. The action takes place behind your party, instead of the tradition overhead/side view. Battles are fast paced and furious, accompanied by a blistering techno soundtrack that only adds to the urgency of the fight. The menu systems are easy to maneuver and there are a large variety of weapons and items to purchase. Dialog is decent and the story is intriguing to the very end. If you are a fan of role playing games, this is a classic that must be experienced by all. It leaves me hungry for the Dreamcast sequel that Sega announced is currently in development.

Phantasy Star 4 | Score: 95%

Phantasy Star 4: The End of the Millenium is an epic role playing game and is the culmination of the Phantasy Star series on the Genesis. This is by far the best role playing game to grace the Genesis and easily challenges the Final Fantasy series as the greatest role playing game ever. The game is enormous and definitely pushes the Genesis hardware to its limits. The graphics are fantastic, bright, colorful and paint a beautiful picture of a heavily anime-influenced futuristic world. The music sets the mood perfectly and sounds like smoke and fog spilling through the creepy, dank dungeons of the game.
